JAM Perennial Plants Companion Planting for Spring Bulbs Have your thoughts turned to planning some spring flowering bulbs to bring colour and scents for the new season? They have arrived in the supermarkets and garden centres now and come in an ever-growing collection of colours. There really is something to suit everyone's taste. Why not consider some companion planting to complement your bulbs; this can be good idea to extend the duration of your spring display. We'd like to suggest a few companion candidates for you to consider. Ideally you'd get them in now so they perform well for you in the spring.

First off the Erysimums, commonly known as wallflowers. We have the new 'Erysimum Paintbox' which has beautiful palette of colours ranging from the softest golds and ochres through to deep pinks. They are very easy to grow and will flower from spring to summer. Paintbox is a hardy perennial that gives a delicious scent. Plant now or in early spring for a beautiful display. These are just 5.50€ in 1L pots

Another more traditional Erysimum we have available is 'Vulcan' this is a deep garnet red colour and has the same attributes as described for Paintbox, with a long flowering season and a gentle perfume. These are just 4.50€ in 1L pots

For us here at JAM we love the arrival of the first Hellebore blooms of the year - we take it as sign of new season kicking off in the garden. Probably the first perennial of the year to flower with a long flowering season and very floriferous plants. They seem to positively thrive on our alkaline rich soil. We have a selection of Hellebore here on offer and are expanding our range in the nursery year on year. Available for planting now, white singles, white doubles, all sorts of pink ones with freckles, rings and other blush markings, singles, red singles, green doubles and a lovely little one called Lucy Black. For next year we'll have a yellow double called Golden Lotus available - it's just gorgeous. And we have on order a slate grey Hellebore, we can't wait to see this one in flower.

Happy Gardening, enjoy autumn. We hope to see you here soon.

We open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10am through until 6pm. We're also more than happy to open any other day of the week if you let me know you're coming beforehand.
